About Affiliates

The Emporia Community Foundation believes that affiliates are the best way to serve the six county catchment area surrounding Lyon County. An affiliate is a fund established within another community foundation that is specified to serve a defined geographic area and is advised by people from the specific area it serves. The affiliate raises the money for their specific area, evaluates the needs for that area, and then awards grants according to those needs.

The AFFILIATE FUND is a collection of assets (endowed and non-endowed) whose principal and income are designated by a community foundation to fulfill charitable needs in a specified community.  In operation, an Affiliate Fund will piggyback on the ECF's infrastructure — "back office" financial, legal and administrative systems, investment services, and other related services.  In ECF’s operating model, affiliates are counties. ECF currently has two affiliates: Chase County and Greenwood County.
