Emporia High School Scholarships
The Emporia Community Foundation oversees the USD 253 Scholarship Fund. The application below may be used to apply for most of the listed scholarships. Please review each scholarship for any additional material that must be submitted with your application.
Applications are due in the counselor's office by Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at 3:22PM (End of School Day).

Sandra Coffman-Schenkel Memorial Scholarship
(Top 1/3 of Graduating Class Application)
The Sandra Coffman-Schenkel Memorial Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance for an Emporia High School senior with the aspiration to be an attorney.
- $1,000 nonrenewable scholarship
- 1st preference: aspiration to be an attorney
- 2nd preference: active in Debate or Forensics during high school career

Emporia State Federal Credit Union Scholarship
(Top 1/3 of Graduating Class Application)
The Emporia State Federal Credit Union Scholarship was established for an Emporia High Senior who will be attending a college or university in the state of Kansas.
- $500 nonrenewable scholarship
- Must attend college or university in Kansas

Don E. Grant Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Music
(Use application below. Please note due date is April 3, 2023.)
The Don E. Grant Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Music was established for an Emporia High Senior who will be pursuing a career in music or music education.
- $500 nonrenewable scholarship
- Must be pursuing a career in music education or music performance.

Walter & Elaine Henrie Family Scholarship in memory of Shawn Bryson Henrie
(Miscellaneous Application)
The Walter & Elaine Henrie Family Scholarship in memory of Shawn Bryson Henrie was established in December 2000 to provide financial assistance to deserving Emporia High School graduates who are planning to continue their post-secondary education.
- $2,000 over four years using the following schedule:
- Freshman year: $500
- Sophomore year: $500
- Junior year: $500
- Senior year: $500
- Must attend Emporia State University

Barbara J. Lamb Memorial Scholarship
(Top 1/3 of Graduating Class Application)
The Barbara J. Lamb Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011 to provide financial assistance to a deserving Emporia High School graduate who is planning to further their education.
- $1,500 renewable scholarship

Tucker Lee Endowed Scholarship
(Miscellaneous Application)
The Tucker Lee Endowed Scholarship in memory of Tucker Lee will be awarded annually to deserving Emporia High School graduates attending Emporia State University with an aspiration in Accounting or Business.
- $400 nonrenewable scholarship
- USD 253 Emporia High School graduating senior
- 2.5 GPA minimum for junior and senior year of high school
- Must attend Emporia State University
- 1st Preference-Accounting Major
- 2nd Preference- Business Major

Bill Linhart Memorial Scholarship
(Miscellaneous Application)
The Bill Linhart Memorial Scholarship was established by the Linhart Family.
- $500 nonrenewable scholarship
- Must attend a Kansas community college, college, technical college or university
- Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher

MacKenzie Payne Memorial Scholarship
(Miscellaneous Application)
The MacKenzie Payne Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of MacKenzie Payne to provide medical career-minded seniors of Emporia High School in Emporia (Lyon County), Kansas the opportunity to pursue their vocation at an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution of higher education. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of scholarship and leadership.

Harold Schwinn Scholarship

The Harold Schwinn Memorial Scholarship was established for an Emporia High School senior who is majoring in business.
- $500 nonrenewable scholarship
- Must attend Emporia State University
- Must major in business

The USD 253 General Scholarship Funds are comprised of the following scholarships:
- Wood & Charlotte Bloxom Scholarship
- (2) $500 nonrenewable scholarships
- Preference is given to the applicant who is the first member of his or her family to attend post-high school education
- Catherine Brown Scholarship
- $1,000 renewable (at lower amount) scholarship
- Sophomore year: $500
- Junior year: $500
- Must major in mathematics and/or science
- $1,000 renewable (at lower amount) scholarship
- Mrs. W. T. Colyar Scholarship
- Amount varies, nonrenewable
- Dr. Carl & Mrs. Frances James Scholarship
- Amount varies, nonrenewable
- Reita Richel Scholarship
- Amount varies, nonrenewable
- David & Agnes Trimble Scholarship
- Amount varies, nonrenewable
