Hartford High School Scholarships

The Emporia Community Foundation oversees the scholarship funds within the Southern Lyon County Education Fund. The application below may be used to apply for any of the listed scholarships. Please review each scholarship for any additional material that must be submitted with your application.

Applications for scholarships listed on the general application are due by Monday, April 8, 2019.

George Shipp Scholarship

The George Shipp Scholarship was created to benefit the youth in rural communities. Sustainability is a word that is used frequently in the world today. Local schools are a very important factor in sustaining small rural communities. The survival of communities is dependent upon the continuing education of the youth. Scholarships, such as this one, funded by the public will be a major contributor to this continuing education and will strengthen the community. The youth of the community is something that is strongly believed in as well as the importance of creating opportunities for growth. 

  • (2) $500 nonrenewable scholarships
  • Seeking a degree in an agriculture related program of study or vocation program

Harry & Millie Fritz Memorial Scholarship

Harry & Millie moved to Hartford in 1975. Harry loved to fish, hunt and cheer for the Jaguars. For 20 years, Harry never missed an opportunity to attend a Hartford High School sports event. Harry & Millie both loved to support students in any way they could, including baking chocolate cakes for raffles to raise money for students. Their children continue to donate to this scholarship in memory of their parents. 

Southern Lyon County Education Fund Scholarship

The Southern Lyon County Education Fund is pleased to offer scholarships to Hartford High School graduating seniors. 

  • (2) $250 nonrenewable scholarships

Keith Richard Wilson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Keith Richard Wilson. Keith was in 2nd grade at Neosho Rapids Elementary when he died in a farm accident. This scholarship was first awarded in 1995. From 1995-2003, the scholarship was awarded by Ron & Tammy Wilson in various amounts to Hartford seniors. In the years since, Keith's grandparents, Richard & Carol Wilson, have been awarding a $250 scholarship to a graduating Hartford senior.  ?

  • Must be a 2019 Hartford High School graduate

Fay & Milton Henderson Scholarship

Fay & Milton were residents of Lyon County for several years. Fay graduated from the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia. She spent most of her teaching career in Hartford. Milton was a man of many trades. He was a carpenter and also enjoyed gardening. Fay and Milton were passionate about education and sharing their talents with others. This scholarship continues to help students further their education in memory of Fay & Milton Henderson.

Dale & Cindy Baysinger Family Scholarship

Dale & Cindy Baysinger are pleased to provide scholarships for graduating Hartford High School seniors.

HHS Alumni Scholarship

The Hartford High School Alumni Association scholarship committee is responsible for selecting and awarding the recipient(s). The award will be presented at the HHS Alumni Association Banquet held the Saturday of Memorial Weekend at 6:00 p.m. in the HHS new gymnasium. Attendance is required to receive the scholarship.

Monica Wilkinson Memorial Scholarship

Monica Wilkinson was born in 1980 and spent her entire life in Hartford. She was excited when she became old enough to attend school at Neosho Rapids. She loved her friend and family and enjoyed playing sports. This scholarship was created to help a senior from Hartford High School further their education. A high education will help the student prepare for their future endeavors. 

  • $500 nonrenewable scholarship
  • Must graduate from Hartford High School
  • Must attend Emporia State University, Flint Hills Technical College or any community college in the state of Kansas

Hartford Positive Growth Scholarship

This scholarship is fully funded by the faculty of Hartford Jr/Sr High School and Neosho Rapids Elementary School. It is their goal to award this scholarship to a graduating senior who has displayed positive growth over the years. The faculty believes that every student has the potential to be successful after graduation.

Larry Wilson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by all the wonderful friends and family of Larry Wilson. Larry was a 1953 graduate of Hartford High School. He lived and farmed in the Hartford area most of his life. Larry and his wife, Viola, had 5 children who all graduated from Hartford High School and they now have 4 grandchildren who are Hartford graduates as well.
