An ECF Legacy fund provides a vehicle for you to create a long-term impact on the causes and communities that are most important to you. 

Flexible

Your continued support allows your selected organizations to carry out their missions and contribute to the community for years to come.  Scholarships can also be established with your Legacy Fund to support and encourage generations for years to come.

Diverse

Many patrons think of monetary donations to the ECF for funds, but gifts are not limited to just currency.  The ECF is able to receive a variety of gifts and assets for funding your endowed Legacy Fund including: assets from a will or trust, life insurance benefits, IRAs, 401(k) plans, real estate (such as farmland and houses), jewelry and stocks. 

Please note:  Donating appreciated assets to the ECF have the following benefits:

(1) capital gains taxes will not be levied on the donated property, and

(2) an income tax deduction can be taken on the full, fair market value of the gift. 

These advantages apply if the assets have been owned for the requisite period of time (currently for at least one year and a day).

Financial Facts

• Legacy funds can be established in any amount and with a variety of asset types. 
• Legacy funds are free of administrative fees until assets are received. 
• The ECF combines the funds into a professionally managed portfolio allowing for greater diversification of investments and access to investment vehicles that would not be possible for individual funds. 
• The ECF Finance and Investment Committee is made up of local professional business people and community leaders.  They meet quarterly with our professional investors to review transactions and the ECF staff communicates with our investors on a regular basis.
