General Scholarships

The Emporia Community Foundation oversees many scholarship funds. Most are handled directly through the schools that are included in the scholarship parameters. Applications for widely available scholarships may be found on this page.

Dr. Brenton Bennett Memorial Scholarship

This $1,000 non-renewable scholarship is available to (1) graduating high school senior. Students from USD 251 North Lyon County, USD 252 Southern Lyon County, USD 253 Emporia, USD 284 Chase County, and USD 386 Madison are eligible to apply. It is available to those applying to dental assisting, dental hygiene, or pre-dentistry programs. 

Applications must be submitted to the Emporia Community Foundation by April 1st.

What's In Outdoors Scholarship

The What's In Outdoors Fund was created to serve those interested in getting youth and families "Outside for a Better Inside!" The fund provides a scholarship to Kansas kids interested in making a career out of environmental education or related areas in photography, journalism, communications and conserving our natural resources.

This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and current college or university students in the state of Kansas. Students must be attending a college or university in Kansas with Kansas based career goals. The student should be majoring in a wildlife or nature-based curriculum including outdoors journalism.

Applications must be sent to the Emporia Community Foundation by May 1st.

What's In Outdoors Lyon County 4-H Scholarship

The What's In Outdoors Fund was created to serve those interested in getting youth and families "Outside for a Better Inside!" The fund provides a scholarship to Kansas kids interested in making a career out of environmental education or related areas in photography, journalism, communications and conserving our natural resources.

This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors that is a Lyon County, Kansas 4-H club member. Student must be attending Emporia State University with Kansas based career goals. The student should be majoring in a wildlife or nature-based curriculum including outdoors journalism.

Applications must be sent to the Emporia Community Foundation by May 1st.

Sam & Pat Wine Scholarship

The Wines were longtime Greenwood County residents and dedicated educators. They created this scholarship to aid Greenwood County students to achieve their post secondary goals.

This scholarship awards up to (1) $1,000 nonrenewable scholarship to a graduating senior. If there are two deserving applicants, the committee may award (2) $500 scholarships. Applicants must be a Greenwood County resident and graduate from USD 386 Madison-Virgil, USD 389 Eureka, or USD 390 Hamilton. Financial need is a consideration for this scholarship.

Applications must be submitted to the Emporia Community Foundation by April 1st.
